Description and diagnostic features   

    Its leaves of ten look as if they have a blue dusty sheen. Undulata refers to its wavy edge on the leaves. The branches ate very tough and the roots resist being pulled out of the ground.  Tough is taai in Afrikaans.


Part used

shoot tips.


Uses

Primarily used for cleaning the teeth.  The tip of a twig is crushed with a stone or  chewed to form a brush loaded with tannins (toothpaste included)


Warning

Very rich in tannins.



Habitat


It grows from near the coast right up into the edges of the Karoo. It is quite drought tolerant.

     From the southern cape to Kenya

Propagation


It germinates from seed.
